Topics will include the history of interschool athletics in NY State as well as rules, regulations, and policies of athletics, performance skills, technical information, and organizaztion and management practices. Special training and conditioning of athletes in specific sports, fitting of equipment, specific safety precautions and officiating methods will also be examined. “ZUMBA is a Latin-inspired, dance-fitness class that incorporates Latin and International music and dance movements, which create a dynamic, exciting, and effective fitness system! This class format combines fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body in an aerobic/fitness fashion to achieve a unique blended balance of cardio and muscle-toning benefits. Zumba integrates some of the basic principles of aerobic, interval, and resistance training to maximize caloric output, cardiovascular benefits, and total body toning. The cardio-based dance movements are easy-to-follow steps that include body sculpting, which targets areas such as gluteals, legs, arms, core, abdominals and the most important muscle in the body, the heart.” Dancers and nondancers alike immediately and easily master a Zumba class because you do not have to know how to dance to succeed at Zumba. Students will learn that power yoga systematically deals with and conditions each region of the body/mind, gradually and safely loosening bound joints and stiff body parts, tight muscles, and connective tissues and significantly improves cardiovascular health and reaction time, muscle tone, injury prevention, and overall sense of well being. Students will learn to complete several fun yet challenging yoga sequences designed to build up stamina and focus, relieve stress and emotional tension through use of several breathing techniques, meditation, and breath and body awareness.
