An examination of the discipline of literary studies. Explores issues that concern literary critics as they read and write about works of literature, including the historical development of literary studies, canonicity, the conventions of literary-critical discourse, and the assumptions and interpretive consequences of different theoretical and critical approaches to literature. Students will study children's fiction and poetry, and they will learn the history, structure and mechanics of the English Language.
