Introduction to computer systems and software used in art and graphic design, concentrating on Desktop Publishing. Macintosh computer lab: scanners and printers will be integrated into the development of expertise in Adobe CS InDesign and other programs. This course is the introduction to design principles of type, layout and composition for graphic designers, for communication majors and for other disciplines that use visual communication or information design. Students will create a variety of projects demonstrating acquisition of professional level skills. 4 hours studio, one semester; 3 credits. Offered fall and spring.

Digital art using the Macintosh computer laboratory. Students will develop expertise in Adobe CS 4, with an emphasis on the integration of Photoshop, Illustrator, Raw and Bridge, combined with scanning and printing applications for print and web media. Students will design a variety of projects demonstrating acquisition of professional level skills. This course serves as a foundation for design and art education majors, and is applicable to communication major and other disciplines. 4 hours studio, one semester; 3 credits. Digital art using the Macintosh; Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, combined with scanners and color printers, applied to designing print media and web pages. 4 hours studio, one semester; 3 credits. Prerequisite: AR 325. Offered fall and spring semesters.

Introduction to the basic concepts of Web design on the Macintosh. Principles of visual organization, web navigation, HTML, web editing, image placement and animation graphics will be explored. 4 hours studio, one semester; 3 credits. Prerequisite: AR326 or Photoshop experience.

This course provides an approach to effective art educational practice. It presents art teacher candidates with information to make decisions about topics and issues to address in their teaching. Valuing art history, aesthetics, art criticism, and art making as integrated components of art education is emphasized. 2 hours lecture, one semester; 2 credits.

This course focuses on both current and evolving concepts in web design for the computer graphics artist. Students will build upon skills acquired in AR327+ Web Design Graphics, selecting from Macromedia Dreamweaver, Macromedia Fireworks, Macromedia Flash, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator. Prerequisite: AR327+, 4 hour studio, one semester; 3 credits. Offered on application.
