Prerequisite: None This course is an introductory course in the principles, procedures, and practice of theatrical production including experience in conjunction with departmental presentations. Basic methods of constructing and handling scenery and basic techniques of handling stage lighting instruments, controls, and electricity are presented. Prerequisite: THTRE 113 or department approval This course stresses fundamentals of theatrical design as it relates to creation of aesthetic and practical environments for theatrical productions. Graphic media and workshop exercises acquaint students with problems encountered by the director, scene designer, and lighting director in providing a suitable environment, by visual means, for the production.

Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in theatre practicum This course is designed to provide both basic knowledge, technique and skills of theatrical make-up for the beginner as well as advanced skills, theory, and practice for the experienced student of theatre. Through laboratory experience, each student will be provided the opportunity to advance at a rate commensurate with previously acquired knowledge and skills. Course content will emphasize types of materials available to the actor and the technician and will expose the student to methods of using such materials in creating straight, character, and special make-up for the stage. Prerequisite: None This is a performance course. The thrust of this course is to prepare the student/actor physically, intellectually, and spiritually for his work with a script on a stage. Upon completion of this course, a student should: (1) recognize as well as perfect his body and voice as a stage instrument; (2) be comfortable with his theatrical space; (3) discover the ensemble effect of acting; and (4) work comfortably with the basic tools of acting: actions, objectives, and obstacles. There will be little, if any, scene work. Instead, efforts will be geared to exercises and improvisations. [IAI: TA 91]

Prerequisite: None This is an introductory course to acquaint the student with: (a) stage director's functions as an artist; (b) his qualifications; (c) his responsibilities; and (d) his materials and tools. Upon completion of the course students should: (1) be comfortable in accepting a directing assignment for different types of stages; (2) be confident in the interpretation of a script; (3) recognize and practice techniques for directing, coaching, and criticizing actors; and (4) block the play in pleasing aspects of composition and picturization. The student learns the use of costume plots, measurements for fittings, procedures for construction, and standard works for research in historical costume periods and folk costume. [IAI: TA 91]

Prerequisite: Department approval This course is designed to give the student/intern experience in their chosen field of interest under the direct supervision of a professional (Producer, Director, Designer, Stage Manager) while engaged in on-the-job training. The student/intern will also do individual research and study on approved area of interest.

Prerequisite: None This course links Creative Dramatics and Children's Theatre. The focus of the first portion is leading children to develop their imaginations through the use of dramatic activities as a learning tool -- in any classroom or as an end in itself. The second division, Children's Theatre, involves the analysis of playscripts and the techniques of directing, acting, and designing for the child audience.
