Prerequisite: Completion of SURTK 120 with a grade of "C" or better This course is a continuation of introduction to surgical technology with emphasis on acquiring skills of scrubbing and assisting the circulator during surgical procedures in the operating room and delivery room. Specific areas of study include: surgical landmarks, surgical anatomy, incisions and terminology related to laparotomy, hernias, breast, veins, rectal, obstetrical and gynecological surgical procedures.

Prerequisite: Completion of SURTK 121 with a grade of "C" or better This course is a continuation of fundamentals of surgical technology with emphasis on acquiring skills of scrubbing and assisting the circulator during surgical procedures in the operating room and delivery room. Specific areas of study include: genitourinary, orthopedics, and endocrine system.

Prerequisite: Acceptance into the surgical technology program This course is a study of pharmacology and anesthesia. It will deal with all aspects of pharmacology: drug sources, forms, nomenclature, route of administration, classifications, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, drug handling techniques, identification, supplies needed, transfer of medications to the sterile field, commonly used medications, general anesthesia, nerve conduction blocks, history, and team member roles during anesthesia.

Prerequisite: Completion of SURTK 122 with a grade of "C" or better This course is a continuation of Fundamentals of Surgical Technology II with emphasis on acquiring skills of scrubbing and assisting the circulator during surgical procedures in the operating room and delivery room. Specific areas of study include: neurosurgery, thoracic, cardiovascular, burns, plastics, oral, ophthalmic, and otorhinolarongology.

Prerequisite: Completion of SURTK 210 with a grade of "C" or better This course outlines advanced techniques in surgical technology and is a continuation of the fundamentals of surgical technology series. This course will focus on suturing and knot tying techniques, professionalism and interpersonal skills, continuing education, and resume writing.

Prerequisite: Department approval This course outlines advanced techniques in surgical technology and is a continuation of the fundamentals of surgical technology series. This course is a bridge between the previous surgical technology certificate and the Associates in Applied Science for Surgical Technology. This course will focus on suturing and knot tying techniques, professionalism and interpersonal skills, continuing education, resume writing, robotics, electricity, physics, and computer usage.

Prerequisite: Department approval This course provides the opportunity to work on a technical project, research, or other specialized study related to individual academic needs. A written plan for the independent study project is developed with a faculty member (including a detailed description of the project, the number of credit hours assigned to it, the evaluative criteria to be used, and other relevant matters), and the project is carried out under the periodic direction of the faculty member. The written plan is submitted to the associate dean for approval and remains on file within the department, together with a final written report submitted to the faculty member by the student. Repeatable up to a maximum of five semester hours of credit.

Prerequisite: None This course introduces basic knowledge of conversational Kiswahili. Emphasis is on pronunciation and simple, useful Kiswahili vocabulary and conversation. The course introduces Swahili customs and culture as well as the history of Kiswahili characters and the Swahili people along the coast of Eastern Africa. This course is usually taught in eight two-hour sessions.

Prerequisite: SWAH 001 or equivalent This course is a continuation of SWAH 001 with emphasis on the development of flexibility in narrative, the expansion of vocabulary appropriate to simple conversational exchanges, and knowledge about doing business in Kiswahili. This course is usually taught in eight two-hour sessions.

Prerequisite: None This course studies trends in Modern Drama and Theatre that introduces the many fascinating forms of drama and theatrical production in use in our times. The plays and styles of production and acting used are the main focus. There is no performance involved. The course should make students aware of the extraordinary vitality and diversity of the modern international theatre including the dynamic contributions of American playwrights, designers, directors, and actors.
