Purification and characterization of biological molecules with a focus on proteins, enzymes, lipids and carbohydrates. Techniques important for isolation and characterization of these molecules will be learned and applied in the laboratory. Individualized laboratory work in a specialized field of chemistry under direct supervision. Problems should be selected a semester in advance to provide for preliminary literature review. Every semester. Three hours laboratory per week per credit hour. Lab fee per credit $40. May be taken repeatedly but a maximum of two credit hours count toward a chemistry major or minor.
