Supports teacher candidates in creating reflective portfolios that demonstrate links between courses in education and content areas with professional standards, department goals, and field experiences. The seminar focus is on diversity in schools. Field experiences in tutoring students in hight needs settings are required. Participation in individual conferences and a formal evaluation of the protfolio before continuation in a teacher education program is required. Prerequisite: SPE 200. Pass/No Pass grading.

Includes the study of educational research, child and adolescent development, developmentally appropriate and instructional best practices, individual differences, learning environment, and assessment. Prerequisite: PSY 210 and sophomore standing.

An advanced study of the development of language skills and the provision of support for meeting the literacy needs of the diverse learner, K-12. Focus areas include emerging literacy skills, developmental reading instruction, support, materials and resources. Prequisite SPE 250.

Supports teacher candidates in updating reflective portfolios that demonstrate links between courses in education and content areas with professional standards, department goals, and field experiences. The seminar focuses on professional collaboration legal and certification requirements for student teachers. Field expericences at prospective student teaching sites are required. Participation in individual conferences, and a formal evaluation of the portfolio before being recommended for admission to student teaching is required. Must be completed the term prior to student teaching. Prerequisite: SPE 300 Pass/No Pass grading.

An advanced study of the special methodology, materials, and approaches for teaching students with mild to moderate disabilities. Educational assessment strategies, components in individualized eduction programs, and the design of strategic instructional approaches are reviewed. Prerequisite: SPE 250.

An advanced study of the application of integrated behavioral theory in the management and the influence of behavior in educational settings. Focus areas include strategies that promote positive social interaction, functional assessment of behavior, proactive behavior interventions, and the supports and tactics to address significant behavior problems. Prerequisites: SPE 250, SPE 300.
