Get the creative juices flowing. Geared towards the visual artist, these three sessions will examine ways to identify why we have a block, how to deal with it and then bust that block. This will be accomplished through discussion and studio work with experimental materials and methods to produce three easy pieces. Any level, any discipline welcome.

Lessons will focus on objective, subjective, narrative, figurative, and naturalistic themes. Experiment with pencil, colored pencil, ink, markers and watercolor. This class is open to artists of all skill levels-practice makes perfect!

Painting has changed drastically throughout the ages with its greatest leap occurring with the advent of photography. The original goal of many painters was to represent the world around them, but once the camera was introduced, artists began to experiment. This class will examine painting styles from the mid 1800s to the present. The goal is to try as many different approaches as possible to expand your painting vocabulary, use of tools, and to free yourself from preconceived notions about what painting is or is not. You will be encouraged to discover the link between painting media, your imagination, intuition, contemporary philosophy and personal experience. Experimentation, invention, process and a variety of materials, approaches and tools will be emphasized.

    Instructor: Jennifer Thompson Mrozek one session Saturday, 9:00 am -3:30 pm, March 21 NON-CREDIT Tuition: $75 In this fast-paced and fun one-day workshop, students will be introduced to the art of fashion illustration. The basics of drawing the fashion figure, composing mood boards, and develop/drawing of a unique garment based on a specific, seasonal wardrobe 'challenge' will be taught.Participants are encouraged to bring in magazines for collages. No experience is required; this workshop is open to teens and adults. A half-hour lunch break will be taken at noon.

    Instructor: Marilyn Mitchell winter Two Sessions Saturday, 9:00 AM - 1:00 pm, February 7 & 14 NON-Credit Tuition: $100/Lab Fee: $10 Draping is the art of using fabric to create an apparel design directly on the dress form, enabling the designer to bring an idea to life. Through careful consideration of the figure, fabric, fit and shape, a designer can bring innovation and individuality to apparel design. In this workshop students will explore basic draping principles and explore design ideas to develop an artful apron. Whether frilly, fancy, minimalist, or industrial, the apron has evolved into a fun fashion accessory-and necessity-that it is limited only by the designer'simagination. Learn basic draping techniques using your ideas, a dress form, muslin, and the guidance of our expert to develop a unique pattern for your design. Optional studio time after this workshop will be available for garment construction to a limited number of students at an additional fee.

Publishing techniques, rough composition skills, concept development and fundamentals of typography are introduced as students learn how such technology is used in real world applications.     Instructor: Bates Carter one SESSION Saturday, 9:00 AM -1:00 PM, February 14 NON-CREDIT Tuition: $100, 0.4 CEUs This crash course on the Macintosh operating system is recommended for anyone who has never used a computer, is unsure of his or her skill level or who is unfamiliar with the Mac operating system (Mac OS). Basic operations such as opening and saving files, copying between directories, file management, and printing will be covered, and basic computer terminology will be explained. No experience necessary.
