Master the fundamentals of the most powerful and versatile tool for creating animation and interactivity for the web. Through in-class projects this course will show you how to create basic but professional-quality motion graphics for banner ads or web presentations, and how to build Flash based web sites. The course starts with the basics of Flash interface, moves through tools and techniques into the design, planning and creation of Flash projects, and includes real-world considerations for preparing and publishing Flash files on the web. Computer graphics knowledge required.

The development of design philosophy is traced from primitive cultures to modern day. Emphasis is placed on the influence of cultural and sociological factors on Western European and American styles. The class follows a lecture/discussion format, training students to recognize historic styles and discuss current and future trends. Students are required to conduct two self-directed field trips (Wilmington and Philadelphia area) and may attend a class trip to New York. Required text: A History of Interior Design, 2nd Edition, John Pyle. Prerequisite: Introduction to Interior Design (may be taken concurrently).

Add sophisticated techniques for creating multi-level movies that improve load time, using movie clips to organize and manipulate content and importing and controlling sound files. Learn advanced techniques for Flash's vector drawing tools and work with files imported from other programs. This course also de-mystifies the fundamentals of Action- Script. Flash's powerful scripting language can be surprisingly simple to use and gives you extraordinary control over animation and response to user actions. The course is flexible enough to accommodate student requests to explore particular aspects of this versatile program. Prerequisite: Adobe Flash I.

Whether you want to be the next Rembrandt, or simply want to achieve a handle on the mechanics of drawing, this class will focus on understanding the fundamentals of drawing. Through the careful study of still life and models, students will learn how to create life-like drawings of the things around you. We will discuss measuring and sighting, as well as basic concepts of design. Along with working from still life and models, there will be historical discussions, casual critiques, and demonstrations. The mediums used in this class will be charcoal and pencil. Material list will be provided at registration. Please bring all basic drawing materials to the first class meeting. No experience necessary.

Learn to see the tremendous variety of color in ordinary objects and how to translate this vision to the canvas. Participants will work in oil from a variety of motifs, including still-life and landscape. This course provides a rare opportunity to experience Mr. Loper's dynamic teaching style and unique perspective. Class will be held at Mr. Loper's studio in Wilmington. Enrollment is limited, with painting experience required.

This course is the ultimate prep course for high school students considering art school.

    Instructor: Ruth Ansel Three Sessions Saturday, 9:00 am -1:00 pm, March 7, 14, 21 NON-CREDIT Tuition: $150/Lab Fee: $20 Egg tempera is the medium that Botticelli and Piero della Francesco used in the fifteenth century and that Andrew Wyeth and George Tooker have used more recently. Intense, unadulterated pigments are mixed with the yolk of a hen's egg to paint many delicate, translucent layers with a fine brush. With patient practice, the resulting painting will be a finely rendered and luminous treasure. This workshop appeals to artists with some drawing ability as well as art lovers who have a desire to understand and experience, hands-on, the technique of egg tempera painting.
