This eight-week, full-time fieldwork experience takes place in diverse practice settings, supervised by an occupational therapy practitioner. This course focuses on professional development and competency of the occupational therapy assistant for entry-level practice. Occupational Therapy Fieldwork 2A must be successfully completed before beginning Occupational Therapy Fieldwork 2B. This course is graded on a pass/fail basis and requires a per credit health career fee; check the tuition and fee schedule for the current rate.

Successful completion of all academic and Level 1 Fieldwork requirements in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.

In this course, students explore fundamental legal research techniques. Students review the primary sources of law, particularly cases and statutory law, and secondary law through indexes, digests, encyclopedias, treatises, annotated reports, restatements and law reviews. The course covers the West Key Number system and teaches Shephard's citations. Students also learn to perform cite and proof checking of legal citations in briefs and other documents.

In this course, students explore the paralegal profession through an overview of the career field, educational requirements, ethical standards, areas of specialization and work environment settings. They examine certifications, professional associations and the roles and responsibilities of paralegals. Students also identify ethical issues that may arise and develop strategies for meeting their educational and professional goals. The course provides foundational knowledge about the paralegal career path and the skills needed for success.

This course provides an overview of major topics in Pennsylvania family law including divorce, child custody and support, equitable distribution of assets and adoption. Students study the Pennsylvania Divorce Code and related rules and procedures. Key responsibilities of paralegals practicing in family law are explored with an emphasis on preparing documents such as divorce complaints, separation agreements, child custody orders and support petitions.

This course is an introduction to the study of tort law. Topics include intentional torts, defamation, strict liability and negligence. In addition, defenses to tort litigation and remedies are studied.

This course provides an introduction to the civil litigation process from initiation of a lawsuit through the discovery process. Key differences between civil and criminal proceedings are examined. Students develop a working knowledge of jurisdictional rules, pleadings, discovery procedures, and pre-trial motions. Emphasis is placed on the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and the Federal Rules of Evidence and the paralegal's role in assisting litigators with case development, evidence organization and document management throughout the various stages of litigation in both state and federal courts.

This course builds upon concepts and procedures introduced in Litigation 1 by providing an in-depth exploration the steps of a trial, settlement discussions and post-trial enforcement of judgments. Practical application is made through by applying client scenarios encountered during the litigation process and document drafting skills are deepened. Students also engage in an in-depth study of alternative dispute resolution and the impact it has in the resolution of legal disputes.

3.00 Credits
This course provides students an introduction to estates and trusts, including lifetime trusts established during a person's lifetime as well as trusts and estates set up upon death. Students examine fundamental concepts relating to property, wills, estate planning and administration.
