    This course includes a survey of key elements in the life of Islam (beliefs, practices, institutions) from a biblical perspective, with the goal of preparing Christians for ministry to Muslims. Special attention will be given to the role of Muhammad; the Quran; diversity within Islam; and Islamic values, thought, social structure, and theology, in view of the helps and hindrances to evangelism presented by each. Characteristics and needs of today's youth will be examined in order to meet those needs through the gospel. Included is a history of youth ministry, developing a personal philosophy, goals, qualifications, socials, staff relationships, retreats, discipleship programs, and other administrative duties required to develop a balanced youth program.     This harmonized study of the Gospels is the first semester of four. Semester 1 covers the beginnings of the Gospel through the first year of Jesus'ministry. It concentrates on the birth narratives, early Judean ministry, and early Galilean ministry. It includes travel narrative (Lk. 10-19) and a number of major confrontations with Jewish leaders, culminating in the triumphal entry and the cleansing of the temple.     This course includes an introduction to the theories, origin, and function of religion. In addition to a survey of primitive and basic religions, it includes a study of the major religions of the world, classified by their geographical area of origin-namely, those tracing their beginnings to India, to China and Japan, and to the Middle East.
