    An unusual approach to landscape painting. Utilizing a painterly realist style, the artist will demonstrate developing a painting from a specific visual plan. Except for the moon, the picture plane of a night scene is entirely different from daylight plain air painting. Learn how to capture artificial light, starting from a dark canvas and working up to a finished night scene. Any medium acceptable. Camera work helpful. Instructor will bring examples of work and demonstrate the process of night painting.

You will begin with monochrome studios in graphite, charcoal and conte and work toward painted image in color using oil, acrylic or pastel. Learn the use of surrounding space to create narrative. The goal is a firm foundation from whih to develop your personal style. Painting from photos of persons outside the class can be used as an additional opportunity to utilize the techniques being presented. Bring a 2B pencil and paper to first class.
