(O) COURSE DATA: CREDITS: 3 LECTURE: 3 LAB: 0 REPEAT: 0 PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of 39 credit hours in CHLD/ECE courses or consent of instructor Includes knowledge and skills necessary to the effective staff management and leadership of a child development program. Marketing the program to parents and prospective staff, interviewing staff and prospective parents, developing integrated staff performance appraisals and training plans area addressed. Also includes information and practice in relating to staff and community of diverse racial, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. There is additional emphasis on effective, interpersonal communication, team building and collaboration within the program and in the larger community.

Topics addressed will be professional ethics and behavior, workplace communication skills with coworkers and parents, child advocacy, current issues, advanced curriculum planning and program evaluation.

Information covered will serve as the foundation for decisions and practices carried out by professionals in all settings and programs. Students will develop baseline knowl- edge and skills to work with young children and families. Students will complete steps involved in preparing for Na- tional Child Development Associate (CDA) credentialing.

(1 Hour) This course is only availabe online. Students enrolled in this course will be able to define the various types of abuse and neglect, and identify signs and symptoms of the different types of abuse and neglect. Students will also learn who is a mandated reporter and what the penalties are for those who do not report child abuse and neglect. The Kansas ChildrenÃs Service League in cooperation with SRS and KDHE has developed this.

(1 Hour) s This class is only available online. Participants will explore how life events, culture, environment, biology and relation- ships all serve as roads to understanding mental wellness. Students will learn how to create safe, nurturing, and appropri- ate learning environments for children using Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences model. Students will learn strategies for working with families to create a healthy atmosphere for children by using a method of knowing, informing, discussing with, and supporting families.

Using the research-based Creative Curriculum model, stu- dents will learn what a quality program looks like and how to achieve it. The course will explore the integrated roles of the caregiver/teacher, the children, the families, and the commu- nity, using a strengths-based model that defines developmen- tally appropriate practices for infants and toddlers and the role of the curriculum.

(3 Hours) Prerequisite: ECH 100 Fundamentals of Early Childhood or Permission of Instructor Students will acquire the skills and knowledge associated with safe, healthy learning environments for infants, toddlers and/ or preschoolers. Students will also acquire the skills and knowledge associated with advancing physical and intellec- tual competence for those age groups. Students will learn how to assist children in expressing their creative abilities. Stu- dents will complete steps involved in preparing for National Child Development Associate (CDA) credentialing.

(3 Hours) Prerequisite: ECH 110 Functions of Child Development I or Permission of Instructor Students will acquire the skills and knowledge associated with supporting social and emotional development and providing positive guidance to infants, toddlers, and/or preschoolers. Students will learn how to establish positive relationships with families, ensure well-run programs, and maintain a com- mitment to professionalism. Students will complete the final steps necessary for National Child Development Associate (CDA) credentialing.

(3 Hours) This course is designed for early childhood classroom prac- titioners. Students will learn to create interesting and secure environments that encourage play, exploration, and learning. Students will learn to provide opportunities that stimulate children to play with sound, rhythm, language, materials, space, and ideas in individual ways so children can express their creative abilities. Students will develop a comprehen- sive file of curriculm ideas and activities that promote creative expression.
