They will explore the persistent problems of being, knowledge, nature, deity, society, etc., in the context of the assumptions and answers offered by historic philosophical traditions and modern alternative views. Students will develop analytical, integrative, and critical skills; they will grow in self-understanding, and they will form personal conclusions about a Christian view of the world and how that should be manifested within the Christian community and in the larger global community. The purpose of this course is to provide students with an introductory survey to the defense of the Christian worldview in its contemporary postmodern context. The course will cover areas such as: the biblical and theological justification for the apologetic task; issues surrounding apologetic methodology; strategies for effective presentation and argumentation; the development of a positive case for Christianity; common objections against the Christian worldview; and a critique of prevalent ideologies and worldviews. This course will address philosophical, historical, scientific, and cultural issues surrounding the defense of Christianity in the contemporary world. Three hours.
