This course introduces students to the theory and practice of hermeneutic inquiry in depth psychology. Historical, philosophical, and methodological studies provide foundations for the praxis of hermeneutics as the science and art of human understanding. Basic hermeneutic concepts, problems, and perspectives are applied to the investigation of human concerns, including, in particular, concerns related to human development and clinical practice. Special attention is given to cultural, ethical, and methodological issues involved in structuring and implementing hermeneutic dissertation research projects.
