This course focuses on some of the formative contexts which have given rise to depth psychology. For example, healing systems from different cultures and the archetypal images they might evoke might be studied to provide a deeper appreciation of contemporary clinical practice. Other emphases might include an examination of cultural and historical issues which have shaped the emergence of depth psychology. Philosophical antecedents of depth psychology might also be a focus of study as well as the relationship between depth psychology and the poetic imagination.
