Begin to assume the role of a competent practical nurse utilizing the basic human caring phenomena and the nursing process to guide effective clinical decision making. Prerequisite: Completion, with a grade of C or better, of NIP 110 and NIP 115 and NIP 120 and NIP 125 and NIP 130. Students must have Basic Life Support certification, current liability insurance coverage and current immunizations for the duration of the course. Corequisite: NIP1403. Prerequisite or corequisite: NIP 1401. Clinical: 2 credits (90 contact hours)

Develops knowledge of pathophysiology of complex disease processes. Determines cause and prevention of morbidity and mortality. Applies knowledge in this course to the clinical setting in NIP 210: Advanced Nursing Practice. Prerequisite: Completion, with a grade of C or better, in NIP 120 and NIP 125 and NIP 130 OR successful completion of a Practical Nursing curriculum. Students must have Basic Life Support certification, current liability insurance coverage and current immunizations for the duration of the course. Corequisite: NIP 210. Prerequisite or corequisite: MT 150. Lecture: 4 credits (60 contact hours).
