This course is designed to familiarize the student with the basic procedures of analog and digital image capture. This course explores the use of flat bed scanners and digital cameras as related to graphic communication processes. Also included is the student of basic densitometry, litho photography and film processing. Basic instruction and practice in stripping of line film, halftone film, and plate making. Screen tints, color blocking, butting and overlapping; contacting, step and repeat procedures, proofing, preparation and folding dummies, outlining, and master marks; handling and use of paper, plastic, photo direct, direct image and pre sensitized plates; masking, ruling, screen work, and image construction. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course. 2 lecture and 2 lab hours per week. 3 credit hours.

This course is designed to familiarize the student with hardware and software used in electronic publishing which includes desktop publishing, electronic imaging, computer page layout and graphics. Emphasis is placed on the study and hands on operation of hardware systems and exploration of word processing and graphic software programs used for desktop/electronic publishing. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course. 150 minutes per week. 3 credit hours.

Emphasis is on hands on practice with various electronic tools used for drawing and illustrations on personal computer systems. Training on the operations of flat bed scanners, laser printers and image setters is included. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course. 2 lecture and 2 lab hours per week. 3 credit hours.
