Finding, producing, directing, scripting, and editing magazine style/documentary short stories. Interviewing techniques will be stressed. Pre-production, production, and post-production processes will be covered. All students will be required to write and produce their own stories. Prerequisite: pre-telecommunications core courses with C ( 2.0) or better grades in each, and a 2.5 grade-point average for these courses; TCOM 332. Open only to approved telecommunications majors and minors.

Types and practices of retail and business-to-business advertising sales. Study includes radio, television, Web-based revenue streams. Skills development in client discovery, qualifying, ad plan creation and presentation, writing and speaking skills, understanding media and the marketplace. Media math—ratings and shares in television and radio. Cannot be taken concurrently with TCOM 345. Prerequisite: pre-telecommunications core courses with C ( 2.0) or better grades in each, and a 2.5 grade-point average for these courses; TCOM 306. Open only to approved telecommunications majors and minors.

Methods, concepts, strategies, and creation of efficient and effective target-oriented program, audience, image, brand extension, and sales promotion campaigns. Media include radio, television, cable, and Web-based applications, using selected media to reach target demographic markets. Prerequisite: pre-telecommunications core courses with C ( 2.0) or better grades in each, and a 2.5 grade-point average for these courses. Open only to approved telecommunications majors and minors.

Study of media buying, TV ratings, media math, target media, station Web sales and integration, salesperson accountability, planning and projections, transition to management, case studies, copy and storyboards, presentation building, and execution. Prerequisite: pre-telecommunications core courses with C (2.0) or better grades in each, and a 2.5 grade-point average for these courses; TCOM 340, 344. Open only to approved telecommunications majors and minors.

Introduces various writing skills needed by those entering the areas of telecommunications sales, promotion, and management. Practice proposal writing, grant writing, storyboarding, media kit development, and business writing. Prerequisite: pre-telecommunications core courses with C ( 2.0) or better grades in each, and a 2.5 grade-point average for these courses. Open only to telecommunications majors and minors.

A broad exploration of multimedia design via readings and creative experiences. Consider principles underlying the production of multimedia titles, elements of multimedia design, and evaluation of existing multimedia releases. Requires design and creation of a DVD including still and motion graphics. Prerequisite: pre-telecommunications core courses with C ( 2.0) or better grades in each, and a 2.5 grade-point average for these courses. Open only to approved telecommunications majors and minors.

Analysis of Web design in terms of audience considerations, usability, screen layout, navigation, image use, interactivity, and animation. Includes the creation and publishing of a dynamic Web site. Prerequisite: pre-telecommunications core courses with C ( 2.0) or better grades in each, and a 2.5 grade-point average for these courses; TCOM 350. Open only to approved telecommunications majors and minors.

Examination of the skills involved in successfully managing a multimedia project. Emphasis on team building, budgeting, freelancing, problem solving, fostering creativity, and copyright issues. Prerequisite: pre-telecommunications core courses with C ( 2.0) or better grades in each, and a 2.5 grade-point average for these courses; TCOM 350. Not open to students who have credit in TCOM 444. Open only to approved telecommunications majors and minors.

An introduction to the several theories and models of mass communication. Advanced concepts of interaction between humans and technology are introduced. Exploration of new and emerging media, their facilitators, and barriers for human interaction. Prerequisite: pre-telecommunications core courses with C ( 2.0) or better grades in each, and a 2.5 grade-point average for these courses. Open only to approved telecommunications majors or minors.

History of world cinema from its beginning until World War II. Study of the continuing influence of American cinema, as well as key movements in other national cinemas before 1941, such as German Expressionism and the Soviet Montage School. Prerequisite: pre-telecommunications core courses with C ( 2.0) or better grades in each, and a 2.5 grade-point average for these courses; or permission of the instructor. Open only to approved telecommunications majors and minors and film minors.
