This course will present the essential information needed to provide older adults with safe and effective fitness programming. This course focuses on methods of quantifying metabolic demand, identifying risk factors, determining appropriate assessment protocol, and developing proper fitness programs for clients who are apparently healthy, at increased risk, or with known disease. Course work will emphasize calculating and estimating metabolic demand of exercise, normal physiological response to exercise, and the abnormal physiological response to exercise. This course will also focus on the appropriate selection of fitness protocols for those clients who suffer from compromised health.
