    This course provides in-depth information on the function and peculiarities of equine gastrointestinal physiology and the importance of the nutrients that are essential for equine well-being. In addition to discussions of common feeds and supplement, topics will include how to read and interpret commercial feed labels, the balancing of rations, and the use of feed analyses and computer analysis programs. Course content is presented entirely online. Prerequsites: Enrollment in the Veterinary Technology Program and upper division standing or approval of the Director.

    This course provides detailed coverage of the physiological, pharmacological and physical aspects of anesthesia. Detailed case study is utilized to build knowledge and understanding of anesthetic principles. Nursing skills are given emphasis toward pre- and post operative procedures. Prerequisites: Enrollment in the Veterinary Technology Program and upper division standing or approval of the Director.

    This course explores the various etiologies and physiological responses of horse that are afflicted with gastrointestinal insufficiency. Each of the 5 main causative factors of equine colic are discussed and evaluated for health implications and measures necessary for a return to uncomplicated recovery. Prerequisites: Enrollment in the Veterinary Technology Program and upper division standing or approval of the Director.

    This course will give the student an overview of business subjects that will be applicable in any business environment but with particular emphasis in veterinary medicine. This course will also guide the student in the study of the financial and economic concepts necessary to run a small business with an emphasis on managing cash flow and planning. Prerequisites: Enrollment in the Veterinary Technology Program and upper division standing or approval of the Director.

    Description This course examines the responsibilities of personnel managers and managers who perform the human resource management functions in Veterinary/Lab Animal facilities. Course content includes: work analysis, staffing, training, and development, appraisal, compensation, maintenance, client communication, and motivation. Contemporary topics are employee recognition, employee assistance programs, professional burnout, and sexual harassment as they relate to these unique areas. Prerequisite: Enrollment in the Veterinary Technology Program and upper division standing or approval of the Director.

    This class is a veterinary applications course that will require the student to use theories learned in the foundation courses to evaluate practice situations and develop a plan of remediation if deficiencies are detected. Instructor designed scenarios as well as actual veterinary practice examples will be used to challenge the student's analytical and marketing skills. Financial topics, including evaluation of potential practices and buying decisions will be covered. Marketing strategies and ideas will be addressed as well as strategic planning exercises. Prerequisites: Enrollment in the Veterinary Technology Program and upper division standing or approval of the Director.

    This course will focus on learning and applying emergency and critical care techniques appropriate for veterinary technicians. The student will acquire knowledge of the proper use of drugs, fluids, and equipment for emergency and critical care patients. Students will also learn to evaluate these patients through monitoring and life support measures in the intensive care unit (ICU). Prerequisites: Enrollment in the Veterinary Technology Program and upper division standing or approval of the Director.

    This is an advanced course in veterinary technology. Problems assigned according to experience, interest, and needs of individual students. Prerequisites: Enrollment in the Veterinary Technology Program and upper division standing or approval of the Director.

    The capstone course is an opportunity for students to demonstrate achievement of the goals for learning established by the Veterinary Technology Program . The course is designed to assess cognitive, affective and psychomotor learning and to do so in a student-centered and student-directed manner which requires the command, analysis and synthesis of knowledge and skills. The capstone course integrates learning from the courses in the major with the courses from the rest of the academic experience. Prerequisites: Enrollment in the Veterinary Technology Program and upper division standing or approval of the Director.
