Topics include the basic hardware, processors, numbering systems, ladder diagrams, relays, timers, programming, and troubleshooting. The course will also cover fire alarm systems. Prerequisite: (1) Current CPR certification preferred, (2) Completion of Texas Department of State Health Services approved Emergency Medical Technician course or certification by the Texas Department of State Health Services or National Registry of EMT as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic or higher, (3) Demonstrated competency in math, reading, and writing. An exploration of the foundations necessary for mastery of the advanced topics of clinical practice out of the hospital. This course is cross-listed as EMSP 1438. This course provides a detailed study of the knowledge and skills required to reach competence in performing patient assessment and airway management. (2 Lec., 2 Lab.) Corequisite/Concurrent: Concurrent: Students will be required to submit to and pass a criminal background search and a drug screen as prescribed by the program and college. Failure to comply will result in the student being dropped from all EMSP courses. Topics address recently identified current events, skills, knowledge, and/or attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the technology or occupation and relevant to the professional development of the student. In particular, this course will cover Hazardous Material (HazMat) awareness and management, Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) events, the national Incident command System (ICS), and Multi Casualty Incident (MCI) management.
