Prerequisites: KINE 391. Corequisites: KINE 400 and KINE 414. This course is designed to develop advanced skills and knowledge in the prevention, recognition, and treatment of injuries occurring to the head, neck, and torso. Emphasis will be given to the clinical examination process, the use of appropriate clinical and diagnostic testing, and common injuries/conditions of the head, neck, and torso. This course cannot be challenged.

Prerequisite: KINE 392. Corequisites: KINE 300 and KINE 391. The focus of this course will be on the clinical application of therapeutic modalities, concepts related to their use and effectiveness, and their role in the healing process. Students will obtain in-depth knowledge of the healing process and the physiological events that occur following injury. The two-hour lab experience will emphasize proper application of therapeutic modalities in a clinical setting, including appropriate parameters, patient set-up, and indications/contraindications for use. This course and lab cannot be challenged. (Laboratory fee required)

Prerequisites: KINE 391 and KINE 392. Corequisites: KINE 400 and KINE 412. The course focuses on the importance of a properly developed rehabilitation plan following injury, or for management of specific medical conditions. The healing process, components of a therapeutic exercise program, and joint specific considerations in rehabilitation are addressed. The two-hour lab experience will emphasize application of therapeutic exercise in a clinical setting. (Lab fee required). This course and lab cannot be challenged.

Prerequisite: KINE 412 and KINE 450. Corequisite: KINE 470. This course focuses on the management and organizational aspects of athletic training. Current topics in allied health care will be discussed, with emphasis on those specific to the athletic training field. Case studies relevant to course topics will be presented for class discussion. Professional development and graduate opportunities will also be explored. This course cannot be challenged.

Prerequisite: Admission to the Teacher Education Program. Should be taken the semester prior to clinical practice. Study of the PreK-12 physical education and health curricula and methods for teaching these subjects. Emphasis on instructional strategies in physical education and health. Examination of the South Carolina curriculum standards for physical education and health as well as research findings regarding effective teaching strategies in physical education and health. National and state standards are emphasized. Candidates develop long- and short-range plans based on the ADEPT model. A 40-hour practicum is required. Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation to designated or assigned sites.

Prerequisite: KINE 400. Designed to provide a review of the previously taught athletic training educational competencies. Emphasis is placed on musculoskeletal evaluations, general medical conditions, nutritional considerations, vascular disorders, environmental considerations, and emergency medical assessment/ management. During the required 180-hour clinical rotation under the direct supervision of an Approved Clinical Instructor, students will demonstrate their proficiency in the educational competencies. Proficiencies will include musculoskeletal evaluations with appropriate development of a treatment plan, proper use of modalities and rehabilitative exercises, and proper documentation and communication of the injury/condition evaluation. This course cannot be challenged.

Prerequisite: KINE 211 and KINE 380 or permission of instructor. A course designed to teach scientifically valid techniques for conducting safe effective exercise and conditioning programs for healthy individuals. Included in this course are techniques for assessing the health and fitness status of individuals, evaluating their exercise test results, and prescribing exercise and conditioning programs based on these results. This course and graduate cross-listing of KINE 561 cannot be challenged.

Prerequisite: A minimum of 6 credits from KINE 300 level or higher courses, or evidence of in-service athletic coaching. An intensive study of critical contemporary issues confronting in-service athletic coaching personnel. Special problem areas will be selected as related to advanced coaching techniques and the application of athletic training to specific sports.
