    Qualified students who seek individualized advanced study in some area of music that is not covered in scheduled courses may apply for an Independent Study Project (ISP). Students assume responsibility for special readings, research, and/or performance requirements under the supervision of a designated faculty member. Regular meetings with faculty and completion of all assignments are required. Prerequisite: Conditions of the University's ISP Policy.

Exceptional students who have previously studied a woodwind instrument may register for two credits (one-hour lesson once a week) with the written approval of the instructor and the Dean of the Division of Arts and Sciences. Students must supply their own instruments.

    This allied requirement is designed to assist students intending formal application to the Nursing major to be informed in their decision for baccalaureate nursing and to meet selected criteria for approval to the major. This course, prerequisite to acceptance into the Nursing major, introduces nursing as a profession, an art, a science and a career. As a laboratory course, it provides supervision and guidance by nursing faculty for successful assessment of pre-professional skills essential for the pursuit of the Nursing Program. NOTE: Successful completion of this course does not assure the student of automatic acceptance into the Nursing major. See criteria for acceptance into the Nursing major. Registered nurse students (currently practicing) are exempt from taking N200. Licensed practical nurse students(currently practicing) may request to challenge N200. Other persons with appropriate nursing-related backgrounds will be given individual consideration upon written request to challenge N200. Non-nursing majors may take N200 with the approval of the Chairperson of the Nursing Program. Prerequisite:    N-200 Corequisite:    BIO-205 BIO-215 SOC-101

    This course is planned and designed to explore and consider health care needs of women throughout the life span and in various roles during the latter part of the twentieth century. Analysis of current, changing trends, practice and research in women's health needs, health care availability and methods of helping onself and others will occur. Emphasis will be placed on attitudes, approaches, and resources that might be helpful to women in maintaining and /or achieving a satisfactory level of health. Open to all.

    This course is designed to identify the universal truth of the spiritual dimension of human nature. The student will be encouraged to differentiate the spiritual dimension from religious practices, develop an awareness of the personal spiritual dimension, examine his/her personal spiritual dimension, reflect on spiritual development related to eight stages of man (Erickson), focus on the cultural aspect of spirituality and relate religious beliefs and legal issues. The student will use the nursing process as it relates to the dying child, the client with AIDS, the dying adult, the grieving family, and will investigate case histories in nursing which focus on spiritual needs of the client and discover the gift he/ she brings to the nurse-client relationship when spiritual needs are met. Open to upper level nursing majors, RNs and LPNs.

    This course focuses on current issues influencing health and nursing care. The dynamics of the political process and the steps involved in the passage of legislation are discussed. This course allows the student to acquire knowledge of professional nursing organizations, i.e., A.N.A., N.L.N., and the role of these organizations at the local, state, and national levels. The nurse practice act, role of the state board of nursing, professional licensure, scope of practice, continuing education, professional accountability and malpractice will be explored. Future trends in nursing and health care are presented. Basic research principles and design are introduced. Open to all students.
