The emphasis of this course will on be the editing process; understanding and applying basic 4D concepts. This course will focus on creating atmosphere and the development of a coherent scene. Students will participate in a series of field trips to experience shooting in a variety of locations, and short pieces will be rapidly edited based on this footage. The second part of the course will be devoted to individual projects. Students are invited to join this class with or without a project plan. Satisfies: Studio Elective

This course utilizes hand applied light sensitive emulsions on a variety of surfaces. Students do not use purchased photographic papers, but learn to mix chemicals that will photosensitize unusual surfaces for a photographic process. These chemistries date from the earliest experimentation in photography and give a sense of history as well as invite experimentation and contemporary applications. This is an interdisciplinary course which asks students to draw from their various interests and expertise, including painting, drawing, digital processes, sculpture, and writing. This course is an introduction to water based silk screen and its applications. Techniques covered range from the hand painted to the photographic. Also covered are the fundamentals of making and stretching screens, types of mesh, various pigment options and choice of print matrix available to the fine silkscreen artist. Students learn editioning and multiple color registration. A trip to a print collection provides students with a historical viewpoint and a greater grasp of the potential of this medium. Basic ideas of color, design, layering, degrees of opacity and transparency are intrinsic to silkscreen and emphasized throughout the course. Satisfies: Printmaking Requirement or Studio Elective

This course is an introduction and overview of basic lithography. Lithographic techniques are taught in sequence, beginning with preparing the stone on which to draw, printing and the ability to revise an image to take full advantage of lithography ? most fluid and expressive nature. Various historical and cultural approaches to the medium are explored and a field trip is taken to view major lithographic works in print. Through the course, emphasis is equally placed on learning the skills needed to make a technically successful lithographic edition and the dynamic relationship of lithography to drawing as well as other graphic mediums and studio practices.
