Prerequisite: None Home Technology Integration is a vendorneutral course to the networking technologies, audio visual systems, automation methods and telecommunications techniques that converge in integrated home technology. Th is course prepares the student for the CompTIA HTI+ exams, which are a new standard for technicians who design, install and maintain home technology systems. Th is course opens with an overview of home technology and its benefi ts and then introduces business networks and the network technologies developed for home application. Hands-on projects are provided to give the student practical experience in the installation, wiring and confi guration of actual equipment used in HTI technologies. (3/30/45/0/0/4)
  • 3.00 Credits

Prerequisite: ELEC-1420 Th is is an in-depth comprehensive program for teaching the skills needed to perform the highest quality repairs on any type of electronic assembly. Th is course covers a broad range of soldering techniques and understanding the soldering process. It includes soldering of terminals, axial lead components, multi-leaded components, dual inline package ICs, surface mount technology, edge connector and substrate repair. Th e student is given instruction to the uses of diff erent types of soldering equipment and then demonstrates with 'hand-on' labprojects. (2/15/45/0/0/4)
  • 3.00 Credits

Prerequisite: ELEC-1450 Th is course is designed to enhance the student's knowledge of combinational and sequential logic networks. Arithmetic circuits, fl ip-fl ops, registers, counter, multiplexers, demultiplexers and memory circuits are studied. Th e student is introduced to computer troubleshooting and the use of the alogic analyzer. Off ered spring semester only. (3/30/45/0/0/5)
  • 3.00 Credits

Prerequisite: ELEC-1500 Th is course gives the student a practical, real world approach to troubleshooting of computers to board level and component level. A computer technician competent in the repair of a microcomputer can easily learn the repair and troubleshooting techniques of any other class of computer. Th e use of ROM, RAM, data storage, monitors and keyboards remains essentially the same for all computers. Th is course gives the beginning computer-maintenance technician the confi dence to begin troubleshooting on actual computers with a minimum chance of further damage to the equipment and a maximum chance of troubleshooting success. Off ered spring semester only. (3/30/45/0/0/5)
  • 2.00 Credits

Prerequisite: ELEC-1150 Th is course is a study of the characteristics of active devices and the analysis of electronic circuits. Th e course includes amplifi er frequency response, operational amplifi ers, op-amp frequency response, stability and compensation, basic op-amp frequency response, stability and compensation, basic opamp applications, oscillators, active fi lters, voltage regulators, half-wave and full-wave rectifi ers, power supplies, fi ltering, controls, thyristors, unijunction transistors and optoelectronic devices. Th e laboratory sessions include practical experience in constructing electronic circuits from diagrams, component identifi cation and the use of electronic test equipment and electronic safety. (3/30/45/0/0/5)
  • 3.00 Credits

Prerequisite: ELEC-1150 Th is course is an introduction to fi ber optics, laser and robotic technology. (3/30/45/0/0/5)
  • 3.00 Credits

Prerequisite: ELEC-2400 or instructor consent Th is course is intended to meet the needs of students and professionals who want to master wireless local area networks. Th is course is designed to give the student a hands-on guide to planning, designing, installing and confi guring wireless LANs. Th is course covers an in-depth coverage of IEEE 802.1 1b/a/g/pre-n wireless networks, with extensive coverage of wireless security and troubleshooting. Th is course examines the technology that makes wireless networks work and off ers practical tips and techniques to manage a WLAN. Th is course also prepares the student for a leading vendor-neutral WLAN certifi cation, CWNA (Certifi ed Wireless Network Administrator), administered by Planet 3 Wireless, Inc. (3/30/45/0/0/5)
  • 3.00 Credits

Prerequisite: ELEC-2440 Th is course covers video systems used in computer systems. Both video adapters and video displays are presented as part of the course. Th e electrical signals and standards needed to interface the computer and the video monitor are examined. Th is course includes the diff erent specifi cations of video screens and video monitors for computers. Th e student gains video theory and hands-on training in diagnosing and troubleshooting video monitors. Off ered fall semester only. (3/30/45/0/0/5)
