Students are taught about wastewater collection systems in terms of design, construction, operation and maintenance. An overview of the different types of pumping stations, their components and the regulatory requirements are covered. Additionally an overview of pumps and hydraulics as well as flow meters and how they pertain to wastewater treatment and collection systems is also reviewed. This course is ideal for current and former licensed PA Wastewater Operators and those pursuing their wastewater treatment operator's license or those taking the Class E, Subclass 4 certification exam. This course provides Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP) Continuing Education (CE) credit units for operators holding a current license.

This course prepares students for an entry-level position in the growing field of environmental technician work. Potential employment opportunities in this field include: Environmental Technician, HAZWOPER Technician, Lead Paint or Asbestos Inspector, Brownfields Remediation Technician, Land Use Planning/Redevelopment Technician, and others. The training provided in this class will include several certifications, including: OSHA-30 General Construction, HAZWOPER, Confined Space Entrance/Attendant, Lead Paint Inspector, Asbestos Inspector, and Forklift Operator. Additionally, instructional topics will cover the basics of environmental science, site assessment, surveying, site planning, waste water and stormwater, sampling techniques, lab analysis, regulatory standards, GIS, toxicology, and various remediation techniques.

Course topics include: EPA's Energy Star program for commercial buildings, Energy Star Guidelines for Energy Management, best energy efficiency practices, cost- effective energy savings measures, tracking savings and greenhouse gas emissions reductions with EPA's Portfolio Manager.

This class is designed to provide the participant with a working knowledge of fuel cell technology. Training begins with the theory behind electrochemical energy, thermodynamics and fuel cell efficiency and electrode kinetics. Participants will conduct eight experiments to reinforce the learning they receive in the lecture portion of the class. Within these experiments, participants will use a flow diagram and learn to set-up, start-up, and shut-down a working hydrogen fuel cell system.

This class will give students basic information about the wind industry. Courses are held in the classroom utilizing both theory and hands-on application within the limits of available equipment and resources. Equipment will include, but not be limited to Hampden Wind Generator trainers, a Hampden Solar Photovoltaic (PV) trainer and a Hampden Solar PV installer trainer.

This certificate program gives individuals the pathway to become installers and maintenance professionals. Courses are held in the classroom utilizing both theory and hands-on application within the limits of available equipment and resources. Equipment will include, but not be limited to, Hampden Wind Generator trainers, a Hampden Solar Photovaltaic (PV) trainer and a Hampden PV Solar installer trainer. Graduates will enter the workforce with the basic skills needed to complete more advanced training and with on-the-job training can acquire the skills to become a wind turbine technician.

This class is designed for the person who has a basic understanding of heating and cooling systems and construction. In order to have a basic understanding of building science, candidates should read "Residential Energy Cost Savings and Comfort for Existing Buildings" amd "Saturn Energy Auditor Field Guide". Both theory and practice emphasize practical problem-solving in preparation for Building Analyst (BA1) certification through the Building Performance Institute (BPI).
