An investigation of the ways of teaching drama to children. Designed to help you gain a better understanding of the philosophy of creative drama, to gain a deeper understanding of children, to enjoy creative drama via the role of a player, to strengthen personal awareness and imagination and to have a beginning experience as a creative drama leader. This course is designed to enable you to work successfully in classrooms that include learners who have physical or emotional handicaps. You will learn to recognize specific impairments, develop goals and strategies for the learner and acquire familiarity with laws concerning the handicapped. Prerequisite: EDUC 2070.

In General Methods you will focus on five major areas: planning for instruction, strategies for implementing instruction, evaluating and reporting techniques, classroom management, instructional technology. Up to 40 hours fieldwork in a multicultural setting are required. Also available in Weekend College. Prerequisite with concurrency: EDUC 2070.

As an elementary teacher you will be responsible for providing a learning experience in a classroom that enables students to engage in meaningful tasks in mathematics instruction. There are many facets to this learning environment of which an elementary teacher must be aware ? knowledge of the discipline, planning the lesson, assessment, follow-up. This course is designed to give you an opportunity to read, discuss and design activities to enhance student learning. The goals for this course correspond with the licensure requirements for all elementary teachers in social studies with the explicit purpose of providing you with opportunities to apply fundamental social studies concepts and the connections among them in course assignments. The course content and learning activities focus on experiences designed to prepare you with competencies and skills related to tools of inquiry and problem solving: the history, government and culture of Minnesota-based American Indian tribes as integrating concepts throughout the elementary curriculum; and the environment as an integrating concept through understanding of how to use the sciences, social sciences, mathematics, arts and communication in the exploration of environmental issues and topics. Up to 40 hours of fieldwork required (in conjunction with EDUC 3010 and 3030). Prerequisites: Admission to the Education Department, EDUC 2800.
