The goals for this course correspond with the licensure requirements for all elementary teachers in social studies with the explicit purpose of providing you with opportunities to apply fundamental social studies concepts and the connections among them in course assignments. The course content and learning activities focus on experiences designed to prepare you with competencies and skills related to tools of inquiry and problem solving: the history, government and culture of Minnesota-based American Indian tribes as integrating concepts throughout the elementary curriculum; and the environment as an integrating concept through understanding of how to use the sciences, social sciences, mathematics, arts and communication in the exploration of environmental issues and topics. Up to 40 hours of fieldwork required (in conjunction with EDUC 3010 and 3030). Prerequisites: Admission to the Education Department, EDUC 2800.
