Through lecture, text, and visiting music industry experts, Executive Track students will gain a thorough-going understanding of the economic, creative, and spiritual elements critical to a career in contemporary music. In concert with staff, they will help Artist Track students identify their gifts and develop a long-term career plan. They will prepare the materials necessary to pitch an artist to a record company, and negotiate a mock recording contract. This CMPR course is only offered through the Contemporary Music Program of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities. Class 3.

Executives will learn how to create a label business plan; analyze and forecast trends in popular music; assemble a successful artist roster; and, in tandem with artists, they will plan, budget, and produce recording sessions. This CMPR course is only offered through the Contemporary Music Program of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities. Class 3.

Through classroom instruction and presentations by visiting industry experts, Executive Track students will become familiar with the role of packaging, retail point-of-purchase materials, publicity, advertising, radio and video promotion, Internet marketing, and tour support in the marketing and sale of recorded music. Students will develop comprehensive marketing plans for each semester's artist recordings.

Experience in and analysis of both synchronous and asynchronous communication including e-mail, messaging, conferencing, bulletin boards, and other electronic discourse formats. Includes analysis of how time and virtual space affect language, identity, and community in computer mediated communication. Class 3. Prerequisite: COMM 1113. (Spring and Distance Learning, Even years)

Seminar and special courses which are not offered in the regular communications curriculum. This course may be taken more than one time when the topics are different. Class 3. Prerequisite: Consent of the department chair.

A proficiency course in the use of business productivity software suites. Applications include word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software. Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grade. Lab 1.

A second semester study of computing principles. Abstract data types, object-oriented programming concepts, and introductory topics of graphical-user interfaces, unit testing, and file structures. Students hone their problem solving skills through a variety of programming assignments. Class 3. Prerequisite: COSC 1303 or consent of instructor.

A second-year course in data structures and algorithms. Topics include commonly used data structures, recursive algorithms, computational complexity, sorting and searching techniques, and an introduction to run-time storage management. Course assignments emphasize both program design and implementation. Class 3. Prerequisites: COSC 2103 and MATH 1803.

An overview of the five components of modern computerized information systems: hardware, software, procedures, people, and data. A study of existing systems and the strategic roles they play in business. An introduction to business data processing using modern applications and programming languages. Class 3. Prerequisite: COSC 2203. (Spring, Even years)

A study of design alternatives in computer architecture. Topics include machine organization, memory subsystem organization, interfacing concepts, issues that arise in managing communication with the processor, and alternative computer architectures. Assembly language is studied and used to implement a variety of small programs. Class 3. Prerequisites: COSC 2203 and either EEGR 3213 or EETC 3213. (Spring)
