Identification of employer goals, employment opportunities, job qualifications, acquisition of job-related skills and the application of classroom theory in a realistic atmosphere.     A foundation course in fundamental visual communication techniques employed by designers to illustrate and explore concepts as well as to communicate to colleagues, clients, trades people, and construction contractors. Freehand and mechanical drawing techniques are employed to produce scaled drawings and models. The body of knowledge known as pictorial drawing is covered, including the topics: perspective, paraline, orthographic (also known as axonometric), and oblique as well as techniques for producing monochromatic renderings. Distinctions are made between design process work, client presentation work, construction drawings (contract documents), and shop drawings.     A basic study of interior architecture and design. Projects will focus on various modes of dwelling, theories of place-making, domesticity, and designing for different lifestyles. Emphasis will be on concept development and the application of theory to explore domestic architecture and interior design. Requires a grade of C or above for successful completion.     A study of the fundamental principles of computer-aided design: drawing, editing, building symbol libraries, dimensioning, plotting, determining spatial relationships and setting up attributes. Projects will relate to the design industry. The potential uses of CAD in interior architecture will be explored. Requires a grade of C or above for successful completion. Prerequisite: IND 103. 2 credits (Spring)

    A foundation course in visual communication techniques employed by designers to explore and represent concepts in threedimensional space as well as to communicate to colleagues, clients, trades people, and construction contractors. A variety of media and techniques are explored for color rendering two-dimensional and threedimensional drawings. Modeling techniques, utilizing a variety of materials and media, are also explored for use in representing interior space and construction systems at various stages in the design process from conceptual design through final presentation, including models used to study daylighting. Requires a grade of C or above for successful completion. Prerequisite: IND 103. 3 credits (Fall)

    A survey of interiors, architecture, art, and furnishings from pre-history to present as expressions of social, economic, political, religious and technological developments. Emphasis is on significant and lasting designs from specific areas and the historical context and influences. Additional emphasis is placed on the evolution of furnishings and an historical overview of the beginnings of the interior design profession. Requires a grade of C or above for successful completion. Prerequisite: ENG 101. 3 credits (Spring)

    A survey course exploring the properties, characteristics, installation, costs, and specifications associated with major interior materials. Carpets and rugs, resilient flooring, tile, wall coverings, paint and finishes, glass, and hardware will be explored. Additional emphasis shall be placed on textiles. Fire safety testing methods and ratings will be examined to assure code compliance in the built environment. Requires a grade of C+ or above for successful completion. Prerequisite: ART 103, IND 205 3 credits (Spring)

    This course provides an overview of integrated building systems exploring the interrelationships of construction technology, structures, and environmental control systems as they relate to interior architecture. Structural systems, construction methods, fenestration, as well as HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems are explored. Requires a grade of C or above for successful completion.     An initial supervised work experience in local agencies, firms or specialized studios to permit practical application of professional knowledge and skills. Requires a grade of C or above for successful completion. Prerequisite: IND 210. 3 credits (Fall, Spring)
  • 2.00 Credits

    This course will include the steps necessary to complete a residential design project: assessing client needs, space planning, application of the design elements and principles, estimating interior materials, preparation of client presentations and construction documents. Emphasis will be placed on design for differently-abled and environmentally and socially responsible design. Requires a grade of C or above for successful completion. Prerequisite: IND 110 Co-requisite: IND 215. 3 credits (Fall)
