It incorporates lecture and lab materials contained in the most recent paramedic curriculum approved by the New York State Department of Health Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The secondary goal is to provide certification requirements for American Heart Association CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and National Association of EMTs Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support. Special fee applies. Prerequisite: Current or past certification as an AEMT Paramedic.

10 Credits Nursing & Public Safety Intermediate Studies This course provides students with the initial education necessary to administer advanced pre-hospital emergency care and skills as Intermediate EMTs. It incorporates lecture, lab, and clinical materials contained in Pre-hospital Environment, Preparatory, Airway, Patient Assessment, and Trauma sections of the most recent curriculum approved by the New York State Department of Health Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Clinical rotations are required in EMT Intermediate Field Rotation, Emergency Department, Anesthesia, and Respiratory Therapy. Special fee applies. Prerequisite: Current EMT certification.

The secondary goal of this course is to meet requirements for the American Academy of Pediatrics: Pediatric Education for Pre-hospital Professional. Prerequisite: Current certification as an EMT-B.

6 Credits English,COM,For Lang, & PHI Intermediate Studies This course is designed for ESOL students with intermediate English language skills. Students entering this course should be able to communicate in written English and possess basic reading and conversational skills. Classes focus on language development in grammar and writing, vocabulary and reading, listening and conversational skills, and American culture. Students must pass this course with a grade of C or better to go on to ISP 051. Entering Student Assessment scores, writing samples, and individual interviews determine placement. ISP 050 requires a combination of lecture/laboratory instruction for a total of six hours per week. Laboratory work will involve supervised instruction based upon diagnostic pretesting. This course is a requirement for ESOL students based upon proficiency level or Entering Assessment scores. Offered as needed.

3 Credits English,COM,For Lang, & PHI Intermediate Studies This course is an immersion course in the areas of college study skills, reading, vocabulary building, and writing. Students will enhance skills and knowledge bases in each of these areas and gain a practical understanding of the demands of college-level work. Students will assess and analyze their own negative study habits, attitudes and behaviors that have mitigated again their success in college. The course will look to reduce such negative behaviors and replace them with positives ones. The course will motivate and empower students with skills and strategies that will enable them to take personal control over their lives and to become successful enough to return to non-probationary status. This class requires a combination of lecture/laboratory instruction for a total of five hours per week.
