This course introduces students to the business of wedding and portrait photography and to the marketing practices necessary for success. It emphasizes developing professional objectives based upon careful considerations of financial, organizational, promotional, interpersonal, and ethical practices particular to wedding and portrait photography. This class consists of lectures and site visits and does not include the production of photographs or lab times. (2 contact hours)

Prerequisite: PHOT 1100 or PHOT 1105 This course presents specialized techniques for photographing people on location and in the studio using both strobe and natural light. Students will shoot location work with their own cameras. They will perform studio work with the school's medium-format cameras. The course concentrates on family portraiture, fine art portraiture, and commercial portraiture. (4 contact hours: 2 lecture, 2 lab)

Prerequisite: PHOT 1100 or PHOT 1105 Each student in this advanced course is required to submit a proposal during the first week of class for a photo project that reflects the student's interest. When approved, the proposal becomes the focus of the student' s work for the entire semester. This course can be used to augment a portfolio in preparation for a job search or to begin a new project that requires an in-depth and extended effort. Students will also present oral reports on research topics throughout the semester. Students may take this course up to three times for credit. (4 contact hours: 2 lecture, 2 lab)

Prerequisite: PHOT 1100 or PHOT 1105 This course covers the use of color photographic imaging and additive and subtractive color theory. The course encompasses photographing, processing, printing, presentation, and criticism in either digital or film-based media. (4 contact hours: 2 lecture, 2 lab)

Prerequisite: PHOT 1100 This course teaches students how to use Ansel Adams' Zone System. Students will conduct material and equipment tests to determine working film speeds and film development times. Students will learn how to determine any subject' s lighting ratio and plan appropriate processing procedures to produce exhibition quality black and white prints. Students must provide a hand held light in addition to a camera and lenses. (4 contact hours: 2 lecture, 2 lab)

The course will cover posing, business practices, client interaction and image capture in color, black and white, infra red, and digital media. (4 contact hours: 2 lecture, 2 lab)

Prerequisites: PHOT 1100, PHOT 2300, or portfolio review. This course is an introduction to the theory and methods of production of Quick Time (TM) Virtual Reality images. Students will study and produce both QTVR Panorama and QTVR Object Movies. (4 contact hours)

Prerequisite: Permission of Photography Department Chair This course is designed to give students experience in travel photography and foreign study in the French cities of Paris and Rouen. Participants will return with greater knowledge and appreciation of French history and culture, increased photographic skills, and a body of work demonstrating competency in travel photography. Dates of travel July 19-28, 2010. FEE: $500.00 (deposit only, full cost $3,660.00 for Lake County, $3,722.00 for Out of County, $4,472.00 for Out of State)

This course introduces students to the basic business practices of commercial photography, including estimating jobs, keeping records, establishing negative filing systems, using business forms, and exercising copyright protection. Each week the class will meet at various business locations throughout the Cleveland area. Students must provide their own off-campus transportation. (4 contact hours: 2 lecture, 2 lab)
