4 Credits, 6 Hours Prerequisite: MAT 203 The first semester of a two-semester sequence in a calculus-based introductory physics course for students interested in a career in engineering/physics. Topics included are: measurements and units, the SI system of units, one-dimensional motion, vectors, two and three-dimensional motion, Newton's laws of motion, work and energy linear momentum, collisions, center of mass, rotational motion, moment of inertia and torque, static equilibrium, buoyancy, simple harmonic motion, mechanical waves, heat and thermodynamics.

3 Credits, 3 Hours This course provides students with an overview of the legal system and the paralegal's role in the legal profession. Students will learn the main sources of law by examining the judicial, executive and legislative branches of the New York state and federal systems. Other topics include techniques for the study of law and the ethical responsibilities of a paralegal and an attorney. There is also a special section on paralegal employment and strategies for success in the job search process, including resume writing and interviewing.

3 Credits, 3 Hours Pre- or co-reouisite: PIC 101 This course is designed to teach students how to find relevant case law, administrative law and statutes in the law library. Use of research tools such as digests, encyclopedias, state and federal reporters and statutory codes will be covered. Students will learn how to integrate research results into written legal memoranda, briefs and other legal writings. The art of citation and Shepardizing will also be covered, as will an introduction to computerized legal research using Westlaw.

3 Credits, 3 Hours This course covers the various stages of litigation including investigation, pleading, discovery, trial and appeal. Students will learn to conduct factual investigations and client and witness interviews. Using applicable New York and federal statutes and rules, students will learn how to draft various documents including the summons, complaint, answer, counterclaim, various motions, as well as discovery devices. There is an examination of the rules of evidence. Appeals and alternative dispute resolution are also covered. Topics covered include conducting intakein New York. Topics covered include interviews, formation of marriages,methods of acquiring ownership of real prenuptial agreements, annulment,property, characteristics of the various grounds for divorce, separationestates in property, types of ownership, agreements, procedures for obtaining asurveys and descriptions, types of liens divorce, spousal support, property division,and encumbrances, types of deeds and child support, visitation, child custody,mortgages. A special emphasis is placed on and adoption.preparing for a real estate closing, closing procedures and post-closing activities.

3 Credits, 3 Hours This course covers the law of contracts, including an examination of both common law contracts and Uniform Commercial Code principles. Topics covered include contract formation, enforceability, breach and remedies. Students will learn to draft simple contracts.

3 Credits, 3 Hours Pre- or co-reouisite: PIC 101 This course prepares the paralegal to assist attorneys with the transfer of real property and healthcare planning. Topics covered include intestate succession, formal requirements of a will, codicils, living wills, basic types of trusts, health care proxies, grounds for contesting wills and drafting of simple wills. By examining New York's Estates, Powers & Trusts Law and the Surrogate's Court Procedure Act, along with relevant forms, students will learn how to assist in pre-probate procedures, probate court proceedings and estate distribution.

3 Credits, 3 Hours Prerequisite: PLG 101 This course covers the basic elements of various torts, including negligence, products liability, and medical malpractice. Students will learn to use this knowledge to assist with constructing a personal injury case for plaintiffs and defendants. Students will examine interrogatories, complaints, and other litigation documents that specifically involve personal injury actions. Students will also learn special investigative and interviewing techniques required to prepare a personal injury action.

3 Credits, 3 Hours Prerequisite: PLG 102 Pre- or co-requisite: PLG 101 This course builds upon the skills obtained in PLG 102. Students will conduct complex print and computerized legal research and incorporate the research results into various legal documents. Issue spotting and legal analysis are emphasized, as well as proper legal citation.
