1.00 Credits
Prerequisite: MTH 2300 taken in the same or a previous semester This course is intended for students whose program is education. It further develops and expands the statistical and probabilistic concepts learned in MTH 2300 that are important to elementary and middle school mathematics teachers. Topics include the analysis and display of data, model building using regression and correlation, topics in probability, and twosample hypothesis testing. Graphing calculators and computer software are used extensively throughout the course. To develop their oral and written presentation skills, students are required to do several presentations as part of the course.
-
3.00 Credits
Prerequisite: MTH 1200 The course introduces the basic topics in discrete mathematics; logic, relations, number systems, combinatorics, sets, functions, counting, and mathematical induction. The analysis of algorithms, graph theory, trees, network models, and automata are explored. Problem solving and proofing of mathematical concepts are emphasized. Discrete probability and computational geometry may also be introduced. Offered in the spring semester.
-
3.00 Credits
Prerequisite: MTH 1210 or choice of two courses taken from MTH 1110, MTH 1560, and MTH 2300, plus approval of the department chair Cooperative education allows students to combine academic study with on-the-job experience by working on paid training assignments coordinated by departmental faculty. This course is intended for students who are pursuing A.A. degrees in mathematics/physical science or other programs stressing the use of mathematics. Interested students should contact the cooperative education coordinator in the Career Services Department. Grading in this course is pass or fail. This course may not transfer to colleges offering a four-year degree in mathematics or related fields. Offered irregularly.
-
3.00 Credits
Prerequisite: MTH 2910, plus approval of the department chair Students continue the cooperative education assignment begun in MTH 2910 or begin a new assignment. Grading in this course is pass or fail. This course may not transfer to colleges offering a four-year degree in mathematics or related fields. Offered irregularly.
-
1.00 Credits
Prerequisite: MTH 1150 Students learn strategies for complex problem-solving that synthesize knowledge from previous mathematics and science courses. This course will focus on the theoretical and conceptual development of mathematical analysis. These strategies can be applied to the AMATYC Student Mathematics League exam administered every semester (in support of the college's Student Mathematics League Team).
-
1.00 Credits
Prerequisite: MTH 2980 This course continues the problem-solving strategies that students have studied in MTH-2980. This course will focus on the theoretical and conceptual development of mathematical analysis. These strategies can be applied to the AMATYC Student Mathematics League exam administered every semester (in support of the College's Student Mathematics League Team).
-
3.00 Credits
Prerequisite: none This course will introduce elementary classroom teachers to music fundamentals. Students learn basic skills through singing, and playing the recorder, piano, and classroom instruments. They will also develop units of study and evaluate teaching materials.
