The experiences of people and businesses used in class illustrate the relevance of each theoretical management concept and how those concepts apply to actual business situations. Due to constantly changing management practices, leadership and change management concepts are integrated in the issues and applications throughout the course. This approach provides students with a solid foundation in processes that are currently used by different organizations.

    3 class hours An organization's human resources management function focuses on its people. It includes practices that help the organization deal most effectively with all people in the pre-selection, selection and post-selection phases of the employment cycle. This course covers human resource management trends and changes, equal employment opportunity/affirmative action, job analysis, recruiting, testing, selection, training, performance appraisal, compensation/benefits, labor relations, discipline, workplace health and safety, ethical dilemmas, and cultural diversity. Prerequisite: COM 212 or instructor's permission

    3 class hours This in-depth course is intended to provide the opportunity to offer courses of variable content on emerging issues or technology of special interest to the college community that would not normally be part of the NMCC curriculum. As such, the topics and content will vary from semester to semester. This course will increase the awareness of the most current issues and technology surrounding the student. Prerequisites: varies according to the course requirements

    3 class hours, 9 lab hours Provides students with knowledge and skills required for a complete educational experience in the residential construction field. Emphasis is placed on safety, and the principles of residential construction are practiced by building a full-size energy efficient modular house inside a fully equipped lab. This includes floor framing, wall framing, sheathing, roof systems and exterior finishes.

    3 class hours, 9 lab hours A continuation of CAP 111. Emphasis is placed on exterior house finishes and roof framing. Students will supplement their occupational skills by learning and practicing on cornices and various roofing materials on the full size modular house. They will also supplement their skills by framing various styles of roofs in a mockup situation. Prerequisite: CAP 111 or instructor's permission

    3 class hours, 9 lab hours Continuation of CAP 121. Students will continue to supplement their occupational skills by designing a modern kitchen using computer-aided drafting. Students will become knowledgeable in the construction, fabrication and installation of kitchen and bathroom cabinets. Areas also covered are windows, doors, interior wall coverings and installation, which includes installation of the full size modular home in the lab. Prerequisite: CAP 121 or instructor's permission

    3 class hours, 9 lab hours Continuation of CAP 211. Emphasis in on the interior of the house. Includes the study of woods, wood finishing, steps and stair construction. It also includes the installation of interior trim on doors, windows, ceiling and base as well as installation of kitchen and bath cabinets, including various counter-top types. Students will learn customer relations by completely finishing the interior to the owner's specifications. Prerequisite: CAP 211 or instructor's permission

    3 class hours Provides students with a working knowledge of the operating system, word processing and presentation graphics. Coverage of the operating system will include working with and organizing files, personalizing the Windows environment, and managing the Windows operating system. Coverage of word processing will consist of basic to some of the more advanced features of Word, from creating, editing and formatting a document to customizing Word and integrating it with the World Wide Web and other programs. Coverage of presentation graphics will consist of basic to the more advanced features of PowerPoint, from applying complex animation and sound effects to manipulating digital photographs and drawing diagrams and illustrations, as well as integrating slides with other Microsoft applications.
