Study of various aspects of family law including marriage, prenuptial and antenuptial agreements, annulment dissolution of marriage, separation agreements, child custody and support, alimony, judicial separation, adoptions and other areas. Prerequisites: PLA 1003, PLA 1104, PLA 2214, PLA 2203, PLA 2223, BUL 2241, BUL 2242, or permission of program coordinator. This course provides an opportunity for the student to become job ready, interning in an area law office under the guidance of the instructor and law office supervisor. Student will work at least 10 hours per week performing legal assisting duties such as drafting simple pleadings, responding to discovery, digesting depositions, aiding at deposition and trial, legal research, file organization and other legal assisting tasks. Intern meets with instructor one hour per week for pertinent discussion. Contact: 3 hours.

American politics: the constitutional basis, structural organization, functions, and operations of our national government, emphasizing the relationship of the individual to the government. Lecture 3 hours.

Study of state, county, and municipal government, the role of the states in our federal system, structure, functions, and services. Special emphasis will be given to the Florida governmental system. Special topics for students who wish to further explore the field of political science through discussion, observation, or research. Focus placed on topical problems, current issues, or emerging political/ social trends. Lecture 1-3 hours.

Offered by DIS only. Course of study is designed to provide applied work experience within the political process, either through the private or public section. Evaluation of student performance will be based on pre-defined learning objectives and documented with specific information acquired from the student and employer. The student will be expected to commit between 10 to 20 hours per week to the internship.

Basic concepts of the physical sciences (the laws of motion, energy, electricity, magnetism, light, the chemical bond, and atomic structure) are related to everyday applications of science and technology and the exploration of our universe.
