Examines the role of government expenditure in the economy from both a theoretical and an empirical perspective, with a focus on two broad categories of government expenditures policies: social insurance and redistribution programs. Analysis of taxation. 141B: Theory of public goods, externalities, voting models, analysis of bureaucracy, the Tiebout model, income redistribution, intergovernmental grants. 141C: Allows students to apply knowledge of public economics in the conduct of individual research.
