This course covers time conversion, celestial coordinate system, the use of the navigational almanac and sextant, celestial bodies, and position identification. Any applicant who has successfully completed this Celestial Navigation course with a passing grade of at least 80% will: (1) Satisfy the Celestial Navigation training requirements for certification as Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch on vessels of 500 or more gross tonnage (ITC) and will be considered to have successfully demonstrated the competence "Plan and Conduct a Passage and Determine Position: Ability to Use Celestial Bodies to Determine the Ship's Position" of Table A-II/1 of the STWC Code and will also be considered to have successfully demonstrated the equivalent of assessments OICNW-1 and OICNW-1-if from the National Assessment Guidelines for Table A-II/1 of the STCW Code.
