CONTACT HOURS (Lecture/Lab/Total): 90 CLASS LOCATION: ( To be completed by the Louisiana Technical College Campus) INSTRUCTOR INFORMATION: ( To be completed by the Louisiana Technical College Campus) COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is a self-study course designed to prepare the student to pass Coast Guard exam at a Regional Exam Center. Although, this outline posts 90 Hours for completion, this is an average timeline. Students work at their own pace and differ in completion time. This course covers time conversion, celestial coordinate system, the use of the navigational almanac and sextant, celestial bodies, and position identification. PREREQUISITES: NONE COURSE OBJECTIVES: Successful completion of training and written requirements of 46 Code of Federal Regulations 10.215(c) and 10.401 (d) for 500/1600 Gross Tons Master TEXTBOOKS AND OTHER MATERIALS: Nautical Almanac, 1981 H. O. 229 Volume 2 ATTENDANCE POLICY: All students are to complete courses as scheduled. Students will not be allowed to "make up" time in any course.Because of Coast Guard requirements concerning attendance, students who cannot complete a course within the scheduled timeframe, will be required to re-schedule to take the entire course. Tuition currently extends for a two-month period of time for all courses over 24 hours. If a student is able to re-schedule the course within that timeframe, there will be no additional tuition cost to him/her. If a course cannot be re-scheduled within the two-month period allowed, the student will need to fill out another application and repay tuition for that course. EVALUATION AND GRADING: (To be completed by the Louisiana Technical College Campus.) ACADEMIC HONESTY: Plagiarism, cheating, and other forms of academic dishonesty are prohibited.
