SOSC 0207: Urban Sociology
3.00 Credits
Kansas City Kansas Community College
3 hours credit Although humans have only been living in cities for approximately 5,500 years out of our total history, city living has become the norm. In relation to our own society, urbanism has become the American way of life. For the majority of people in America, life will be spent in an urban area. Those rural living environments which remain today are tied to urban areas, culturally, politically and economically. Thus, regardless of where one lives or what occupation one follows the city must be taken into account. Development of the modern city and its functions are emphasized. The influence of urban life on personality, social programs, and social interaction are studied. Prerequisite: Sociology, SOSC-0107 or consent of the instructor.
