Designed as a bridge course to orient the registered nurse to Upper Division study. Nursing theories are evaluated in the context of the theory-practice relationship. Opportunity is provided for in-depth understanding of the nursing process and emphasis is given to the Neuman Systems Model. Specific concepts relevant to professional nursing practice are considered and applied in analysis of both practice and education issues. This course focuses on nursing pharmacology and therapeutics by presenting a theoretical foundation and practice-based approach to drug therapy application in many settings. The course emphasizes general principles, theories and facts about drugs and how they are administered. Practice-based content is presented on how the nursing process is integrated with pharmacology and general principles of action are discussed to facilitate students' learning in the clinical environment. Specific drug information is discussed in relation to assessment, nursing diagnosis, client monitoring, interventions, client education and evaluation of safe and effective drug therapy.
