Course is designed to address current issues in health care delivery/patient functioning. Such issues may include Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), medico-legal issues, malpractice, advanced directives, advocacy, political issues which affect health care, OSHA regulations, conducting a health risk analysis, international health initiatives and other current health issues. Prereqs.: professional level Allied Health major or permission from course instructor.

The internship provides the student with integrative practical experience in health care services delivery, operations, management, supervision, strategic planning, financing and human resources management in health care organizations. Prereq: AHCC-405.

This course is designed to serve as a capstone which capsulizes concepts, tools, and techniques of health policy formulation, process and implementation. The course will give historical perspectives of the health care policies, state-of-the-art issues at national, state and local levels (legislative), and managerial operation levels (organization). The student, moreover, will be able to develop appropriate competence in analyzing and implementing health care policies and compare that with the private sector. Prereq: AHCC-102, AHCC-405.

This introductory course is designed to provide the student with basic concepts, skills and techniques of managing financial operations of health care institutions such as hospitals, health maintenance organizations and private practice. It integrates accounting principles and statements, the nature and implications of the various financing techniques including service demands, health insurance, cost analysis, fee-for-service, capitation, contracts, Medicaid and Medicare programs into the routine functions of the chief financial officers and mid-level financial managers. Prereq: ACCT-201, ECON-002.

This introductory course is designed to familiarize the student with concepts, tools and techniques of biostatistics and epidemiology. The two-module course will provide students quantitative and fact based knowledge in public health, health services management, health information system and health planning. The epidemiology component, moreover, will offer basic knowledge and principles of epidemiology, screening, randomized clinical trials, infectious and communicable diseases, and principles of health operations research. Prereq: MATH-009 or BIOL-430. AHCC-700. Ethical Dilemmas: Critical Thinking. 3 crs. Introduces the basic concepts of established morality and the application of value and ethical theories to health and health care judgements. To sensitize or raise the consciousness of students concerning values and ethical issues germane to health and health care environments. (Elective for preprofessional students.)
