Introduction to the fundamental technical and aesthetic principles of motion picture photography. Practical training in the use of motion picture cameras. Introduction to image control through exposure, lighting, and selection of film, camera, lens, and filters. Examination of the cinematographer as a visual storyteller to develop a broader understanding of the balance between artist and technician. Examination of the different crew positions and processes of the camera crew. Total of 36 hours lecture and 72 hours laboratory. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC credit under review.

Prerequisites: Photo 21 or one of the following: Art 31A, 40, 50B, 56, GRCOM 30, 35, 220, 245A or a basic background in the use of the computer. Recommended preparation: Photo 23A and either 24A or 24B. Introduction to principles and techniques of electronic photo imaging. Development of concepts and skills to scan, edit, retouch, paint, manipulate and print grayscale and color photographs using Adobe Photoshop software. Recommended enrollment in Art 110D. Develop concepts and skills in digital exposure, control of light, image editing and management, as well as output for print and screen.
