    This course will provide individuals the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and/or prevent the need for first aid and how to provide basic, first responder care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. The student, upon successful completion of the course and the ARC exams (no less than 80% correct on each exam), will acquire their American Red Cross First Aid and CPR cards. No prerequisites. Offered Fall, Spring and Summer.

    Annual 10-day trip, sponsored by the Division of Humanities, gives students a chance to visit and study many of the great historical and cultural sites of Europe. Annual trip destinations rotate between major European locations including: England; Greece; Paris/London; and Italy (Rome, Venice, Milan and the Isle of Capri). May be repeated once for credit. Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor. Offered summers only.

Topics covered include the following: economic, political, and cultural factors determining the business environment, human resource management of foreign labor, foreign direct investment, international finance, international marketing, international trade, international law and strategic planning in a global economy. Spring.

    Applied study of challenges that firms face in international trade and investment. A critical analysis of management strategies of firms that engaged in multinational enterprises in foreign countries is visited and examined. The students experience and study culture, political systems, economic systems, legal systems and levels of economic development. Summer.

    This class presents the theory and practical applications of international trade under both perfect and imperfect market conditions. International trade in resources, products, and assets will be analyzed from both static and dynamic perspectives, using modern trade models. It focuses on determinants of the direction of trade, potential gains from trade, and the links between international trade, income distribution, employment, and economic growth. The implications of trade blocs such as NAFTA and ED will be critically examined. The practical application of trade models and case studies will be used to explain the implications of import-export transactions on firms' profits. Prerequisites: ECON 2503 and ECON 2703. Fall.

    A survey of the major economic systems, including the underlying ideological foundations and institutional arrangements. The major theoretical aspects of various types of systems are covered in terms of political economy and their central organizational features. Special attention is given to changes and developments in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. The European Union is covered in depth along with the major Asian economies of China and Japan. Prerequisite: Junior status and admission into the International Business Institute program.

    A survey of the analytical and institutional aspects of international trade and finance. The historical and contextual elements are the foundation for the examination of current theoretical and empirical approaches to international economic and financial relations. Major areas of emphasis include international finance, international trade, and regional economic integration. Special attention is also given to the issues of globalization and the problems of economic development. Prerequisite: Junior status and admission into the International Business Institute program.

    The theory and practice of contemporary global marketing management. The context or environment of international marketing management is covered along with the task of marketing within a variety of national and cultural markets. Major topic areas included in this course are: the global marketing environment; global market research, including market entry and product planning; marketing strategy in a global context. Several projects will involve students in global marketing research and analysis as well as case studies. Prerequisite: Junior status and admission into the International Business Institute program.

    This course is intended to integrate the field experiences and presentations by guest faculty and practitioners in the area of international business management with the reading and academic work including the recent developments and literature in this field. Students will be expected to prepare analytical reports on the various firms and institutions visited on the field seminar. Major topic areas included in this course include: the role of the multinational firm in the global economy; international and global business strategy; cultural adaptation and organizational behavior in the global firm; international human resource management and financial management issues in the global firm. The discussion of ethical values and issues in global management will also be included in this course as well as in the other courses: Prerequisite: Junior status and admission into the International Business Institute program.
