Goal Introduction to the concept of swimming, running, and cycling as a form of intensive cross-training for physical fitness. Content Goal-setting, discipline, nutrition, elementary physiology, equipment upkeep and regular running, swimming, and cycling. Taught Spring. Prerequisite Beginning swimming/ background in running/swimming/cycling. Appropriate apparel and equipment required (i.e. swim goggles, cap, swimsuit, running gear). Credit 1 hour; Students may repeat this course three times for a maximum of four semester hours.

Goal Introduce student to necessary skills to embark on a course of training to run various distances (e.g. 3-6 miles) Content Goal-setting, discipline, nutrition, elementary exercise physiology, and regular running. Taught Fall. Prerequisite Background in running/walking. Credit 1 hour; Students may repeat this course three times for a maximum of four semester hours.

Goal To introduce students to concepts involved in strength and endurance training. Content Exercise physiology, designing a weight training program, nutrition, flexibility and safety. Taught Spring. Goal Thorough cardiovascular workout from the use of rhythm, body weight and vigorous movement with the heart rate in the target range for cardiovascular fitness for most of the class. Fundamental exercise physiology will be taught with the class. Taught Spring. Credit 1 hour.

Goal Improvement in cardiovascular health, muscle strength and weight control through a basic exercise program. Aerobic activities and a variety of exercise techniques are stressed. Content Students set individual fitness goals and monitor progress throughout the term. Taught Fall. Credit 1 hour.
