Prerequisites: CSP 550 and departmental permission. Students participate in and learn advanced theories and techniques of group counseling. Focus is on the integration of theory and practice. Experiential opportunities are provided for both personal and professional development. Scheduled fall and spring semesters. 3 credits for school counseling; 4 credits for clinical mental health counseling.

Matriculation in the School Psychology program; field component requiring 100 hours in school setting. Explores application of psychological theory in education. Topics include: learning theory, common learning problems among schoolchildren, instructional & remedial techniques, curriculum-based assessment, school organization social-emotional learning, and school culture. Required: classroom participation in an urban school. 4 credits.

Prerequisites: CSP 550 (CSP 652 & 553 for school counseling only); placement within a school setting, and department permission. Examination of consultaion and its relevance to the helping professional, including: consultation models; client, consultee, and organizational variables; and program evaluation. Students will acquire competencies to deliver effective consultation services with schools, families, and agencies. 3 credits.

A full or part-time supervised counseling internship experience in a school, agency, or institution providing psychological and other human services for children, adolescents or adults. Research and Evaluation in Schools and Mental Health Agencies This course covers an introduction to research methods that practitioners need to become critical evaluators of research, and evaluations within their own practice. The focus of this course is on understanding each component of the research process. Essential elements of the research and program evaluation process are covered, including IRB approval and ethical considerations, study designs with appropriately-operationalized variables, utilizing reliable and valid measures, understanding measurement concepts, basic statistics, an introduction to SPSS and writing about research (proposals and publications). 3 credits.

Prerequisites: CSP 691 This course is designed to familiarize advanced master's students with the application of commonly used qualitative and quantitative research methods in counseling and psychology, including experimental, comparative, quasi-experimental, correlation, between-and within-subject, single subject and qualitative designs. The foucs of this course is on providing a more in-depth discussion and skill presentation of the understanding of methodology and program evaluation, advanced statistics and data analysis with the use of SPSS and presentation of findings. 3 credits.

Prerequisite: CSP/SED 690 This course provides spervised experience in applying ABA in real-world settings, including observation, assessment, measurement, and identification and design of interventions. This course provides some of the supervision required to sit for the BCBA exam. 1-6 credits.
