    Class hours: 2.5 Lecture/1.0 Laboratory Prerequisite: Satisfactory completion of the English Placement Process or ENGL 52 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. This course is an introduction to the study of natural disasters, including how the origins are explained by atmospheric disturbances and plate tectonics, and how new knowledge can be applied to the betterment of human welfare. Students should expect to meet with the supervising faculty member one to two hours each week for conferences. Credit is based upon the number of hours in the semester expected to complete the project (1 unit for 54 hours, 2 units for 108 hours). This course may be taken a maximum of 2 times. This course gives the student practice in speaking and understanding German as used in travel, in the home, in school, and in everyday life. Emphasis is placed on vocabulary, idioms, and language patterns fundamental to an active and practical use of German.
