credits, 160 clock hours lecture and 96 clock hours lab Prerequisite:: EH 113, Freshman English I, and Acceptance into the PN Program Co-requisites: PN 101, 102, and 104. This course includes fundamental principles and skills necessary to provide basic nursing care. The student is introduced to the concepts of health, needs, stress, nursing process, therapeutic communication, culture, critical thinking, apothecary and metric systems, as well as dimensional analysis for determining safe medication dosage. Emphasis is placed on clinical experiences that allow students to assist adult clients to meet safety, activity, and comfort needs.

hrs. lec., 1 credit Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level I of the PN Program Co-requisites: PN 223, 203, 211, 214, and 224. The student is introduced to basic principles of diet and nutrition in healthy individuals across the lifespan. The influence of culture and religion on diet as well as the meaning of food and eating are explored.

hrs. lec., 48 hours lab, 3 credits Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level I of the PN Program Co-requisites: PN 201, 223, 211, 214, and 224 This course applies principles of growth and development from birth to adolescence. Emphasis is placed on meeting the client's nutrition, self-esteem, safety, activity, oxygenation, elimination, and comfort needs. Clinical experiences allow students to apply these theoretical concepts with children and families.

This course presents principles of mental health and illness and related nursing care. Emphasis is placed on using therapeutic communication to meet clients' self-esteem needs.

hrs. lec., 4 credits Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level I of the PN Program Co-requisites: PN 201, 203, 223, 211 and 224 This course presents pharmacological principles as well as specific classifications of drugs and homeopathic remedies. Emphasis is placed on dosage calculation, safe administration and effectiveness of medications.

hrs. lec., 384 hours lab, 15 credits Prerequisite: Successful completion of Levels I and II of the PN Program Co-requisite: PN 231. This course presents principles of nursing care for adult clients in acute, sub-acute, and convalescent stages of illness. Emphasis is placed on nutrition, self-esteem, safety, activity, oxygenation, elimination, and comfort needs. Clinical experiences allow students to apply these theoretical concepts with adults, families, and groups. The role of the practical nurse in delegation, collaboration, and healthcare delivery is practiced.

hrs. lec., 48 hours lab, 3 credits Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level I of the PN Program Co-requisites: PN 201, 203, 211, 214, and 224 This course includes nursing care of women during ante-, intra- , post-partal, periods as well as nursing care of the newborn. Emphasis is placed on meeting clients' self-esteem, oxygenation, and nutrition needs. Clinical experiences provide opportunities for students to apply these theoretical concepts with mothers, infants, and families.

hrs. lec., 144 hours lab, 4 credits Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level I of the PN Program Co-requisites: PN 201, 203, 223, 211 and 214. This course presents principles of nursing care for adult clients in acute, sub-acute, and convalescent stages of illness. Emphasis is placed on safety and comfort needs of clients during the peri-operative period and those with integumentary, sensory, and allergic conditions. Clinical experiences allow students to apply these theoretical concepts with adults and families. The role of the practical nurse in delegation and healthcare delivery is expanded.

hrs. lec., 1 credit Prerequisite: Successful completion of Levels I and II of the PN Program Co-requisite: PN 215. This course presents principles of therapeutic nutrition. Dietary modification for clients with socioeconomic, cultural, religious, and specific nutritional needs is discussed. Emphasis is placed on client teaching from an established plan of care.

3 hrs., 3 credits A visual communication of specific ideas in a clean and exact manner. Assignments include illustration and graphic symbolism using computers and laser printers for designing purposes.
