Provides the student with an introduction to palliative care, emphasizing the collaborative role of the pharmacist as part of the interdisciplinary team. This elective course will introduce the student to advanced care planning, ethical principles in the delivery of end of life care, and development of pharmaceutical care plans addressing pain and symptom management, focusing on the hospice care setting. Increases the student's knowledge in complementary and alternative medicine and how it impacts clinical pharmacy. Herbs, vitamins, minerals, functional foods, and others will be evaluated. Indications, mechanism of action, contraindications, side effects, doses, disease and drug interactions, and studies will be discussed. Students who have taken PHCG 432 receive no credit. Must be third year professional status. Pre-Requisites:3rd professional year status. Typically Offered Spring Only
